The 308 CC 1.6 THP offers decent performance credentials and good build quality. On the downside, it's expensive, unrefined, not very good to drive and expensive. You'll also look like a pillock driving it.

PROS:  Good build quality, pretty quick

CONS:  Impractical, not very good to drive, you'll look ridiculous

Behind the Wheel

The 1.6 litre petrol engine fitted in this 308 CC is arguably the pick of the range. The engine produces 156 bhp at 6000rpm and 177 lb-ft of torque at 4000rpm. 0-62mph takes a perfectly acceptable 10.2 seconds and flat out you'll be doing 133mph.

However, don't expect the driving experience to match the performance credentials. The ride is too firm, the steering offers no repsonse whatsoever to the driver and, thanks to the low-slung driving position, all-round visibility is poor.

The 308 CC is no fun to drive.

Looks & Equipment

The 308 CC is a relatively good looking car and the interior feels relatively well made and luxurious.

Standard equipment includes alloys, climate control, electric windows and mirrors, cruise control, rear parking sensors, Bluetooth and a CD player with MP3 connectivity. Sat-nav will set you back £735 and leather seats are a pricey option, setting you back £1570. Metallic paint can also be specified for the price of £440.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

Peugeot claim that the 308 CC will seat four people, but the rear seats are only really suitable for small children. The car feels well built but Peugeot have a bit of a mixed reputation for reliability and have produced some shockingly unreliable cars in the past.

The boot is pretty small, offering just 266-litres of space with the rear seats up and 403-litres with the seats folded down.

On the plus side, it scored the full five stars in the Euro NCAP safety tests so should be a relatively safe car to drive.

Value for Money

The Peugeot 308 CC Allure 1.6 THP 2dr is ludicrously expensive at £25,545. You really shoudn't be paying this much for a Puegeot 308 with the roof hacked off. Running costs are also pretty high - you'll strugglt top top 40mpg and CO2 emissions of 167g/km put the 308 CC into VED band H. Group 22 insurance is fairly reasonable however.

The 308 CC is just too expensive for what it is.

The 308 SW is a very good estate car for those on a tight budget. It offers an attractive package thanks to an impressive amount of interior space, however there are better cars around for the cash.
