CarSite Verdict:  2/5
By chopping the roof of their already fairly mediocre 308 CC, Peugeot have managed to produce on of the least desirable cars on sale today. It's not especially fast, not particularly economical and more than a little bit naff. To top this all off, it's ludicrously expensive and will depreciate very quickly indeed. Steer clear.

PROS:  Good level of standard equipment, nifty folding roof

CONS:  Pricey, impractical, not very good to drive

Behind the Wheel

The 308 CC Active 1.6 VTi has a low-slung, sporty driving position which feels relatively comfortable, however because you sit so low in the car, the all-round visibility is poor.

The Pug's 1.6-litre engine produces 120 bhp at 6000rpm and 118 lb-ft at 4250rpm. This translates into a 0-62mph time of 12.9 seconds and a top speed of 121mph which is not exactly sports car performance.

The ride is very firm and the steering feels oddly numb and disconnected. It handles perfectly well and feels stable on the road but provides absolutely no feedback whatsoever. This is not a car for enthusiastic drivers.

Looks & Equipment

The 308 CC is not an especially bad looking car but it is by no means cool. Peugeot's ubiquitous grinning mouth also spoils the front end.

On the plus side, the Pug comes with a decent amount of standard equipment including alloys, climate control, electric windows, electric mirrors, cruise control, rear parking sensors, Bluetooth, CD with MP3 connectivity and an alarm. Sat-nav is an optional extra costing £735 and leather seats will set you back a further £1570. Metallic paint can also be specified for £440.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

Although Peugeot claim that the 308 CC will seat four people, the rear seat passengers are going to have to be short. The car feels relatively well built but Peugeot aren't renowned for reliability.

The boot is quite small even with the roof up, offering just 266-litres of space with the rear seats up and 403-litres with the seats folded down.

On the plus side, it scored the full five stars in the Euro NCAP safety tests and should therefore protect its occupants well in the event of an accident.

Value for Money

At £22,445 the 308 CC is very expensive and the running costs aren't especially cheap either. You'll get 42.2mpg on the combined cycle which is pretty poor for a car this size. CO2 emissions of 159g/km put the Peugeot into VED band G which is fairly standard and the Pug falls under insurance group 16 so the insurance should be relatively cheap.
