CarSite Verdict:  3/5
The 3008 is a great family car, offering impressive interior space, good levels of practicality and a decent amount of standard kit. Forget this 1.6-litre petrol though and go for one of the efficient diesels.

PROS:  Good value, relatively good looking, spacious

CONS:  The diesels make more sense, the ride is poor, depreciation will be steep

Behind the Wheel

The 3008 Active 1.6 VTi is fitted with the entry level 1.6-litre petrol engine. It's not a bad unit, developing 120bhp and 118lb-ft of torque, but it's probably the weakest in the range. 0-62mph takes a respectable 11.8 seconds and you'll be flat out at 115mph. The engine is very smooth and hushed, even under acceleration.

The ride, however, is very poor and the 3008 crashes over bumps and potholes. It is also very wallowy through the bends but the overall refinement within the cabin is very good, with very little wind or road noise.

Looks & Equipment

The 3008 is a fine looking car and the interior is both stylish and well made.

There is a decent amount of equipment included as standard including alloy wheels, air-con, electric front windows, cruise control, rear parking sensors and a CD player with MP3 connectivity. Sat-nav and Bluetooth will cost you an extra £735 each, an alarm will set you back £210, leather seats cost £1230 and metallic paint is priced at £440.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

Euro NCAP awarded the 3008 the full five stars in its crash tests and the car comes fitted with a full complement of airbags, making it a very safe place to be.

Peugeot don't have the best record for reliability and came 25th out of 28 manufacturers in the 2011 J D Power Survey. However, the 3008 feels very well put together for a Peugeot and is offered with a 3 year/60,000 mile warranty.

There's a lack of legroom in the rear seats but the 3008 more than makes up for this with its enormous boot which offers 512-litres of space with the rear seats up and 1604-litres with the seats down.

Value for Money

At £18,745, the 3008 Access 1.6 VTi is reasonably priced but it would have been nice if Peugeot had included a bit more standard kit.

Fuel economy is only average at 40.1mpg and road tax will cost you £165 a year under VED band G thanks to CO2 emissions of 159g/km. Group 15 insurance is relatively cheap, however.
