PROS: High levels of comfort and practicality and an enormous amount of interior space make this the ideal MPV for families.
CONS: The interior design can be a little confusing and refinement could be better.
The four cylinder 16v engine delivers a fair supply of power to this large vehicle, with a maximum output of 110 bhp alongside 210 lb-ft of torque. The maximum speed of 112 mph is decent for a family car and acceleration speeds are fairly good for a car of this size and weight. The car reaches 0-62 mph in 13.3 seconds which is slower than some models in the range but still adequate.
The Picasso is a very comfortable car and the suspension does a good job of keeping the drive smooth and enjoyable. However, there can be some noise disruption from this at higher speeds and when driving on motorways.
Within the cabin, high quality materials are used and this makes the interior feel comfortable and secure. This model comes with a fairly extensive trim level which includes power steering, central locking, stability control, electric door mirrors, electric front windows, cruise control and a stereo system with CD and MP3 connectivity as standard. Climate control, alloy wheels, rear parking sensors and Bluetooth connectivity are also fitted as standard. Leather seats are also available, costing a rather extortionate £2,035, and a built-in sat nav can be added for £750.
The Picasso is a good looking car and proves that if you're buying an MPV, you don't have to sacrifice style for practicality.
The interior space is used well and the Picasso has a cavernous boot. With the seats folded down there is a maximum storage space of 1,734 litres whilst an impressive 500 litres is available when they are put back into position.
The C4 Picasso e-HDi Airdream EGS6 comes with driver, passenger and front side airbags fitted as standard and also fared well in the NCAP crash tests where it achieved the maximum five star rating for overall safety.
Buyers receive a three year warranty for 60,000 miles. A service interval of 12,500 miles is recommended and this means maintenance is required more frequently than on other C4 Picasso models.
An alarm and immobiliser are fitted as standard to protect against theft.
Priced at £21,995 the Citroen C4 Picasso e-HDi Airdream EGS6 is almost £5,000 dearer than the 1.6 VTi VTR model and buyers will need to determine whether this additional cost is worth it.
Fuel efficiency is better than in some other C4 Picasso models and reaches 56.5 mpg on the combined cycle. This helps to keep running costs low and means this model is a more viable option for families. Green credentials are also better than in the 1.6 VTi VTR model with the car just emitting 130g/km of carbon dioxide. This places it under road tax band D which is relatively cheap considering the size of the vehicle.
