The Chevrolet Orlando is a practical family car. It offers decent performance and delivers a fairly smooth and refined ride. With many other small people carriers offering great technology however, the lack of features and relatively high purchase price could deter buyers. Fuel efficiency for the model is good and value for money isn't too bad, although CO2 emissions are fairly high which equates to high road tax charges.

PROS:  This model has been awarded the maximum five-star rating by NCAP, which assures drivers that this car's safety features have been well established and that the car has been well built. Also, fuel efficiency is good for the class.

CONS:  The car's CO2 emissions are high so road tax is expensive. Air conditioning is not applicable with this model, which is not ideal during the summer. Cruise control and leather seating are also not offered with this vehicle.

Behind the Wheel

With a top speed of 111 mph this car offers typical performance credentials for a people carrier. It is slow off the mark as it takes this car 10.6 seconds to travel from 0-62 mph but this is expected from a vehicle such as this. The car’s power output is average at 161 bhp with torque figures of 266 lb-ft.

In terms of refinement, the deisel engine is fairly good although it can be a little noise when worked hard with the sound becoming smoother at faster speeds. Body roll is well controlled on the road and the responsive handling and steering means that occupants feel safe and comfortable during the drive.

Looks & Equipment

Instead of air conditioning, owners of this car benefit from upgraded climate control - offering high levels of comfort to occupants. Electric door mirrors and electric front windows are also standard as are alloy wheels. However, a metallic paint finish to further enhance the exterior costs £410.

Rear parking sensors, a leather interior and MP3 connectivity for the stereo are also offered as standard, a big plus point for the model.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

Chevrolet have provided a five year warranty with this model, which is a good advantage to drivers as often only three years is offered. The warranty is also applied up to the first 100,000 miles which is great with other companies offering just 60,000 miles on warranty.

The car's security has been well established and it is fitted with an alarm, central locking, and driver, passenger and front side airbags.

The car's practicality is ideal. It can seat seven occupants and has five-door access, which is convenient for rear passengers. The boot space is good for this vehicle, as when the rear seats are up there is a decent 454 litres of free space with 1,499 litres available when the rear seats are folded down.

Value for Money

The Chevrolet Orlando 2.0 VCDi (163ps) LT Auto 5dr is available brand new from £20,515. Considering this car does not come already fitted with great technology this is a lot to pay but the pracitcality of the car attempts to make up for this.

The car's fuel economy is average, offering 40.4 mpg on a combined cycle, and its insurance group (16) is also fairly mid-range, making it relatively cheap to keep on the road. The only other cost which is a little high is road tax which falls under band J due to poor green credentials which see the car emit 186 g/km of CO2.
