Vauxhall has today released an image of its new Astra VXR Extreme, which is set to make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

And the big news is that it will be the fastest production Astra that Vauxhall has ever made.

Based on last year's Astra Cup racing car which competed in the Nurburgring Endurance Championship, the Extreme feature a range of racing modifications over the standard VXR, including racing seats, six-point harnesses, aerodynamic tweaks and extensive use of carbon-fibre.

In addition to the huge rear spoiler, there are also new bumpers, new wheels and four exhaust pipes, compared to the standard VXR's two.

Vauxhall has yet to release any technical details on the VXR Extreme; however, we're expecting significant improvements over the standard car's 276bhp.

More information on the VXR Extreme will be released next month.
