The 2012 Tokyo Auto Salon, which is the world’s biggest custom car show, will see Toyota showcasing new concept versions of many of its models, developed by some of Japan’s leading design and race engineering companies.
Gazoo Racing tuned by MN (GRMN) is showing a second generation version of its iQ Supercharger prototype at the Tokyo Auto Salon, a model which has been scheduled for a limited production run of 100 units later on in the year. The latest iQ is powered by a revamped version of the 1.33-litre engine that was previously used in the iQ 130G MT, and that now delivers 128bhp and comes with 6-speed close ratio transmission, uprated brakes, tuned dual exhaust, and sports suspension. In addition to the updated engine, the new car also has a new body kit. This includes a new rear spoiler, new instrumentation, sports seats and 16 inch Enkei alloy wheels.
GRMN has also been working on the Toyota Yaris, creating a Turbo Concept version of this car. The Turbo Concept is based on the three-door Yaris and features a 178bhp 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, revised suspension, uprated brakes and 18 inch rims.
Meanwhile the Toyota GT 86 gets a makeover from TRD and Modellista, with a range of modifications including reworked suspension, new front and rear anti-roll bars, carbon front strut, extra cross-bracing, rear diffuser and a high-response exhaust system. The reworked GT 86 is painted in White Pearl and also features a completely new body kit with spoilers, skirts, 18 inch alloys, and sports seats.
Moving further away from production car reality into true concept car territory, the Toyota Auto Fan Club has also created a solar powered version of the 2000GT sports car and the Toyota Engineering Society has made the TES-ERA EV, which is a long-term future vision of an EV coupe. Both of these cars will also be on show at the Tokyo Auto Salon.
