Rich motorists tend to drive dirtier cars, new research from the AA has revealed.
Whereas only 6% of those from 'professional and managerial' backgrounds wash their cars once a week, the figure is 8.5% for those from 'blue collar, part-time, unemployed and pensioner backgrounds'.
Similarly, 16% of poorer people wash their cars once a fortnight, compared to just 11.5% of more well-off drivers.
We're not quite sure what all this means (other than that the AA clearly have a lot of spare time on their hands) and there are some flaws in the AA's reasoning: they fail to take into account that pensioners and the unemployed might have more spare time to wash their cars than someone working an eight-hour day.
It has also been found that drivers in the North East and Scotland are more than twice as likely to wash their cars weekly as motorists in London and the South West.
Women are also more than twice as likely to get the bucket and sponge out as men.
So, here's a BuyYourCar Top Tip: always buy a used car off a poor Scottish woman, rather than a rich male cockney.
