A Daimler owned by the Queen is expected to fetch between £25,000 and £30,000 when it goes under the hammer at the Historics at Brooklands sale on 31 August.
Top 10 Cars of the Queen and the Royal Family
The car in question, a 2001 Daimler Super V8 LWB, was used as personal transport by the Queen for three years between 2001 and 2004, and was used to transport Her Majesty within the grounds of Windsor Castle and to and from Buckingham Palace.
On the outside it looks much like a standard Daimler (and could even be mistaken for its sister car, the X308 Jaguar XJ); however, scratch beneath the surface and you'll find that the Royal Daimler has a number of unique features which are fit for a... er... queen.
The centre console has been specially adapted to accommodate a handbag, plus the front fog lamps feature flashing strobe lights which were used not only to clear traffic in emergency situations, but also as a handy impromptu lighting system on the rare occasion Her Majesty visited an outside rave.*
Another unique feature of the lighting system is a pair of neon blue lights situated behind the rear view mirror which alerted security as to which vehicle Queenie was travelling in when approaching Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle. The light was also designed to provide greater visibility in the event of a smoke attack.
Under the bonnet, the Daimler is fitted with the same 375bhp supercharged engine fitted to the standard car. The interior, as you'd expect, is immaculate, with the leather upholstery and lamb's wool floor mats showing little sign of the car's 15,252 miles. A full service history is also included.
*We have been asked to point out that the Queen has never attended an outside rave, having gone off acid house music in the late 1980s.
