The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has released some top tips on driving through London during the Olympics.
We've already shown you the catastrophic effect that the Olympics is having on traffic in the capital, and it seems as if the organisers have spared little thought for the sanity of Britain's beleaguered motorists.
So the IAM is helping out those who plan to drive through London over the next month or so with some top tips from Peter Rodger, the IAM's chief examiner.
- Heavy traffic can stress people out and cause them to behave unpredictably. Be wary of other road users and try to anticipate their actions.
- Expect more cyclists and pedestrians and give them plenty of room.
- Listen to traffic updates and plan an alternative route in the event of congestion.
- Try to keep moving as much as possible, even in a traffic queue, as being stationary wastes fuel.
- Make sure your tyres are pumped up -- under-inflated tyres waste fuel and are more susceptible to damage.
- Look out for pedestrians crossing the road without looking.
- Leave plenty of time for your journey.
- Avoid driving altogether, but if you must drive, consider using a Park and Ride.
