Motorists in central London were left baffled by nonsensical road markings on Southampton Row.

It seems that the council has given the motorist four choices:

  • Drive in the bus lane, risking a fine.
  • Drive in the Olympic 'Zil' Lane, risking a fine.
  • Drive on the other side of the road, risking a head-on crash and, quite possibly, a fine.
  • Drive on the pavement, risking innocent peoples' lives and, in all likelihood, a hefty fine.

In a week in which local councils have come under fire for the increase in road deaths last year, it seems bizarre that Londoners are being actively encouraged to drive down the wrong side of the road and slaughter pedestrians.

    That's bureaucracy for you.
