If you had absolutely nothing to do on your bank holiday yesterday, you might have read some of the 'hilarious' April Fools' Day prank stories which many of the major manufacturers released.

Okay, okay, maybe I was being a bit harsh by putting 'hilarious' in inverted commas, because some of the stories were actually quite amusing. And plus, we did our own April Fools' story (which, incidentally, you'll find here) so we're not really in a position to judge.

Scroll down to read some of the best April Fools' stories which fooled precisely nobody yesterday.

BMW PRAM

BMW P.R.A.M.

BMW, piggy-backing on the media storm surrounding the unborn Royal sprog, released an image of this, the BMW P.R.A.M. (Postnatal Royal Auto Mobile). "Available in Princess Pink or Royal Blue, his soft-top has been designed using our EfficientDynamics technology," claimed BMW.

"With two or four-wheel-drive, it rides as smoothly on a polo field as it does down The Mall and comes with air conditioning and built-in extendable flagpoles as standard."

BMW also announced that the P.R.A.M will be fitted with a N.A.P.P.I.E. (Nanny-Assisting Petrol-Powered Injection Engine).

To take a look at some of the Royals' real motors, take a look at our Top 10 Cars of the Queen and the Royal Family.

Austin e-Allegro

Austin e-Allegro

headlineauto.co.uk tried to fool us by announcing that a state-owned Chinese car manufacturer by the name of China Industries Motor Power (CHIMP) was busy developing an electric vehicle based upon 1970s British Leyland rotbox, the Austin Allegro.

According to headlineauto, the firm wanted to use "a quintessentially British design" and also to "reflect a golden era of automotive manufacturing."

We're quite glad that the e-Allegro is just a joke for two reasons. Firstly, the last thing we need is another electric car, and secondly, the original Allegro was so bad, it made our list of the Top 10 worst British-made cars of all time.

Volvo envelop

Volvo EnVeloP

Of all the April Fools' Day stories, this is by far and away the most believable. Volvo announce it was developing a new car-enveloping airbag to minimise damage and personal injury in the event of an accident.

Volvo said: "The External Vehicle Protection system consists of a small container built in the roof of the car, which contains a folded-in, vacuum pulled balloon of similar material to existing airbags.

"In case of an unavoidable collision, whether it is with another car, a roadside object or even when coming into contact with surface water, the balloon unfolds within the blink of an eye around the car."

Given that the Volvo V40 is the world's first car to come with a pedestrian airbag, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that such a system could be fitted to a Volvo. In fact, although this is just a joke at the moment, we wouldn't be at all surprised if such a system is actually fitted to a Volvo in the future.

MINI Connect US

MINI Connect Us

This is the MINI Connect Us driving app, a system which looks at your driving style (how you operate the throttle, brakes and steering) and tries to match you up with other MINI drivers with compatible driving styles. When a match is found, the app directs both drivers to a meeting place for a date.

HondaHAIR

HondaHAIR

Ever wanted to cut your hair on the go? Well, Honda's April Fools' prank allows you to do just that. The HondaHAIR is an extension for the vacuum cleaner fitted to the US-market Honda Odyssey. Click here to see how it would work if it existed (which, we feel the need to reiterate) it doesn't.

GT-R Toastie Maker

Nissan GT-R Toastie Maker

Yes, that's right. It's a Nissan GT-R-themed sandwich toaster. Nissan claims that the GT-R toastie maker makes "super hot snacks in double quick time." It's even fitted with a 'Turbo' button.
