Suzuki has unveiled a new concept car at the 2011 New York International Auto Show, called the Kizashi Ecocharge.
American Suzuki Motor Corporation has unveiled an innovative petrol-electric powered concept version of its Kizashi saloon car during the 2011 New York International Auto Show. The four-door saloon is the latest development in Suzuki's eco-mobility programme, and offers a 25% fuel economy gain in day-to-day driving using an electric charge to the powertrain system.
The Director of Automotive Marketing and Product Planning for American Suzuki Motor Corporation Steve Younan said of the Kizashi Ecocharge:
"We are continuing to study the virtues of the petrol-electric technology found in the Kizashi EcoCharge Concept. Our basic concept was to attain substantial gains in fuel economy without the traditional sacrifices in drivability required with today's mid-size hybrid sedans."
The Suzuki Kizashi EcoCharge combines a 2.0-litre inline-four petrol engine with an advanced electric propulsion system composed of a liquid cooled 15kW motor and generator unit and a 115 volt air-cooled lithium-ion battery. This system improves the fuel efficiency of the vehicle by delivering an electric powered boost during acceleration, and is combined with a number of other efficiency technologies. These include regenerative braking, low-rolling resistance tyres, fuel cut-off during deceleration and automatic engine shut off when the car is at a standstill. Power is delivered through a six-speed automatic transmission.
To make the Kizashi EcoCharge stand out from the production saloon on which it is based, it has been given a unique luminescent white satin paint design with subtle blue undercoat. It also has a new headlight design, LED foglight illumination, lightweight aluminium wheels and an interior design constructed using eco-friendly materials. The seat materials, for example, require 84% less energy to product and create 80% fewer emissions in production compared to virgin materials.
