The Subaru XV has been awarded the maximum five stars in the Euro NCAP safety tests.

Previous Subarus to win the full five stars at NCAP include the Impreza and Legacy/Outback models.

The crossover scored particularly well in the occupant category thanks to the car's dual front and side airbags, driver's knee, torso and curtain airbags all providing good protection. Subaru's AWD system and stability programme, combined with the car's rigid structure, saw the XV score good results.

One area in which the XV let itself down, however, was in pedestrian protection, scoring a disappointing 64%.

Kenyon Neads, MD of Subaru UK said, "Whilst we anticipated such a result for our XV crossover, this further underpins the vehicle's credentials as an all-rounder, and one that will appeal to young families in particular."
