A strongman from Derby has broken the World Record for pulling chained together cars in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Simon Plant achieved a new record at his third attempt by pulling 14 Ford Fiestas, with a combined weight of nearly 16 tonnes, a distance of 18 feet and six inches during the event at his local Motorpoint branch, beating the previous best of 12 cars over a distance of 15 feet.
The 42-year-old builder hopes to raise thousands of pounds for the charity through his efforts, and put himself through three ‘intense’ gym sessions a week in the build up to his record attempt. The big-hearted builder once held a World Record for pulling a 28-tonne lorry over 100 feet, and the strongman now aims to pull a plane along the runway at East Midlands Airport next year in pursuit of another record.
“I’m thrilled to have done it,” explained Simon. “It was a really tough challenge but thankfully it was a case of third time lucky. I knew I would do it, it was just a case of could I do it before it started raining and I’d lose my grip. Thankfully, I did it and I couldn’t be happier.”
