Police pursued a stolen vehicle at high speed for 35 miles from West Sussex to Hampshire where it hit another car.

The Volkswagen Passat, which police say was stolen from Steyning Sports Centre on Horsham Road at about 20:00 BST on Saturday, was spotted on the A27 where officers continued to follow it.

The car was being driven on the wrong side of the road and so dangerously that officers were forced to stop and inform Hampshire police, who intercepted the vehicle at Emsworth.

The car was stopped about 40 minutes after it was stolen, where it crashed into another vehicle travelling in the opposite direction. The occupants of that vehicle suffered minor injuries.

Police arrested one man at the crash scene but several others, who are now being sought by police, managed to get away.

"Thankfully, nobody was seriously injured in this incident, but many people witnessed this car driving extremely dangerously and at high speeds along a busy road and on occasions on the wrong side of the road” said Supt Di Roskilly.

Police have asked witnesses or anyone with information to contact them.
