The Skoda Octavia vRS is now officially the fastest 2.0-litre forced induction production car ever made, after a record-breaking run at Bonneville.
Reaching a top speed of 227.080mph the Skoda Octavia vRS became the world's fasted 2.0-litre supercharged production car on Friday 19th August at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. The 600bhp 'salt spec' car was built to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Skoda's flagship vRS performance badge and is a modified version of the firm's production car, the Octavia vRS hatch.
Driven by journalist Richard Meaden, the Octavia had already broken the 200mph barrier on six previous runs in the week running up to its record breaking performance. The vRS then smashed through the previous record of 216mph, set in 1998.
The team behind the record breaking car is the Milton Keynes based Skoda UK team, who had spent the week prior to Speed Week putting their car through an extensive dyno programme with the help of performance software and tuning outfit specialist REVO Technik
The Octavia vRS has proven to be a popular model amongst UK buyers looking for the excitement of sports car driving since it was launched in 2011, and the UK is now the company's biggest market for both the Octavia and the Fabia vRS.
Commenting on the new record the Director of Skoda UK, Robert Hazelwood, said:
"This is a truly stunning achievement. Our goal was to break 200 mph as a celebration of 10 years of vRS, and we have achieved that, and significantly more. The success is a tribute to everyone who has worked so tirelessly and with such passion to make Škoda a world beater."
