Maria Sharapova arrived at the WTA pre-Wimbledon party in a Porsche 918 Spyder driven by racing star Mark Webber.

The glamorous tennis ace teamed up with another sporting superstar in Mark Webber and drove to the event in Porsche’s pioneering 918 Spyder. Sharapova is an ambassador for the German manufacturer and Webber raced for them last week in the Le Mans 24 hour race.

Both chauffeur and passenger were said to be impressed by the plug-in hybrid super sports car. It does 0-60mph in 2.5 seconds and can reach a top speed of 214mph, not bad for a car which also finds itself exempt from charging in the London congestion zone due to its hybrid technology.

Sharapova said “What a fantastic way to arrive at the party. To be in the fastest Porsche with a racing driver like Mark is amazing. And it’s great also to be driving in a city like London running only on electric power – it’s an unbelievable car!”

Mark Webber was also suitably impressed with the Spyder and said “Having just driven the Porsche 919 Hybrid race car at Le Mans last weekend, I already know that this technology can produce incredible results. The 918 Spyder is the closest thing to a road-going version, and it’s just as amazing – especially as it can be driven into London for free. And of course it’s great fun to drive Maria around in it!”

The event was held at Kensington Roof Gardens, West London and the car is said to have turned as many heads as Maria on the night.
