SEAT has walked away with a double win in the 2011 Scottish Car of the Year Awards, with versions of both its smallest and its largest models winning an award.
Last night's Scottish Car of the Year Awards, presented by the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers, took place in Glasgow. SEAT won two honours with its smallest car currently on sale in the UK taking home the Eco Award and its largest car winning the MPV of the Year title.
The winner of the Eco Award this year was the SEAT Ibiza E Ecomotive, a frugal 1.2-litre engine vehicle with fuel consumption of 91.1mpg on the and CO2 emissions of 92g/km - which makes the Ibiza E Ecomotive exempt from Road Tax.
Speaking about the choice of the E Ecomotive for this prestigious prize, the President of the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers, John Murdoch said:
"Saving fuel and saving the planet don't mean saving on quality, comfort or driving pleasure.
"All of our contenders for the Eco Award more than satisfy with their economy and tax-busting emissions, but one car - the SEAT Ibiza E Ecomotive - stands out for us as 2011's best environmentally aware machine.
"It's a car that just keeps on cutting the cost of driving, which always appeals to our Scottish hearts and wallets!"
Right up at the other end of the size scale the SEAT Alhambra won its sixth major UK honour at the awards ceremony, with a victory in the Scottish MPV of the Year category.
It appears that the Spanish firm SEAT is proving to be highly successful north of the border, as this latest recognition comes after the firm announced a strong sales surge of its vehicles in Scotland. For the year to date, up until the end of September, SEAT is reporting a 15.9% increase in new vehicle registrations. During the same period the Scottish market as a whole was down by over 6%. The Ibiza and Alhambra, along with the Exeo, have seen especially strong sales growth.
