If you cast your mind back to June, you might remember that we brought you news of a knackered old Mercedes E-Class which had racked up bids on the scary side of £155,000 on eBay after its amusingly frank listing went viral.
Well now it appears that there's a car for sale on eBay which makes the rusty old Merc look like the deal of the century.
The car you see above is (or was, depending on how you see it) a 1996 Ford Fiesta LX, but, as you can probably tell, it's not exactly in showroom condition. However, this hasn't stopped the car receiving a bid on eBay of £153,800.00.
What makes the advert especially funny, however, is the straight-faced incongruity of the accompanying text. Without any acknowledgement of the car's less-than-mint state, the seller, whose name is Dale, states how the car is an "unfinished restoration" and that "with a couple of hundred pounds spent on it, this car could become a real show piece and I would love to see it go to a good, loving home."
The seller then goes on to point out a number of minor flaws with the car, including scratches, a missing door handle and stone chips, all the time failing to acknowledge the fact that the car in question is a heap of scrap metal.
On the plus side, the seller does claim that the engine is "sweet" and the gearbox "tight"; however, the MOT does run out at the end of the week and it'd take a monumental back-hander to the mechanic to get a certificate.
The seller also states that anyone interested in taking the car for a test drive needs to arrange insurance prior to arrival due to the "condition and value of the vehicle", going on to say that he "won't let the car go for a stupidly low price."
So, £153k for a slightly crushed '96 Fiesta? Good deal?
