With its efficient diesel engine the Renault Scenic has beaten off competition to walk away with the top award in the MPV category at the 2011 Next Green Car Awards.
The Renault Scénic 1.6 dCi, which features Start-Stop engine technology, won the top award in the MPV category of the Next Green Car Awards, which are generally thought to be the most scientifically rigorous environmental awards in the automotive industry. In order to pick a winner the judges evaluated vehicles based on their environmental 'green car rating', value for money, level of innovation, styling, and driving experience.
Of course one of the main reasons that the Renault Scénic was able to triumph over the competition is its low CO2 emissions of 115g/km. But the Scénic also manages a combined fuel consumption of 64.2mpg. With its start-stop technology, lower tax and fuel costs, and benefit-in-kind rating of only 13% the Scénic is a very economical car to run and offers buyers excellent value for money. Renault has also worked hard to make sure that performance has not been negatively impacted, with the vehicle managing to get from 0-62mph in 10.3 seconds.
Commenting on the decision, the awards judges said, "Not only is the new stop-start Renault Scénic well-equipped with all the versatility needed of an MPV, it has great fuel economy and handling - all at a very reasonable price."
The soon to be launched Fluence Z.E. saloon from Renault and the new 94g/km 'Eco' Clio were also 'Commended' by judges in the Next Generation and Supermini categories.
Phil York, the Managing Director of Renault UK, said of the award:
"We're delighted to be accepting this award from Next Green Car for our best-selling MPV. The brand new 1.6 dCi 130 is the most powerful diesel engine of its size on sale today and yet has the lowest CO2 and fuel consumption of any MPV on the market. Since it was launched at the Paris Motor Show last autumn, there has been a lot of interest in both five- and seven-seat versions fitted with this innovative engine. Such is its success, that we're looking to extend its use on other Renault models."
