This is the Peugeot 108, the replacement for -- you guessed it -- the Peugeot 107, which will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show next month and will go on sale in the UK in July.
Like its predecessor, the 108 will be one third of a triumvirate of cars including the new Citroen C1 and Toyota Aygo. All three will go on show in Geneva next month and all will go on sale at some point during the summer.
At 3.47m long and 1.6m wide, the new 108 comes in a choice of three- and five-door hatchback guises or, in the case of the 108 Top!, as a convertible featuring a rollback fabric roof.
Peugeot is making a concerted effort to move its range upmarket and cast aside the slightly iffy reputation afforded by its 07-suffixed cars. The RCZ, the 208 and the new 308 have already elicited approving nods from the press and public alike and, on first impressions, it seems that the 108 could continue this trend.
Not only does the 108 look more mature than the 107, it's also packed with the sort of kit you'd normally expect to find in a much bigger car. There's a seven-inch touchscreen and a gamut of options ranging from reverse parking cameras to automatic air-conditioning and keyless entry.
Power will come from a range of three-cylinder petrol engines, the most frugal of which will return 88g/km of CO2. At the other end of the scale, the most powerful model comes with an 82bhp 1.2-litre unit and still manages to sneak under the golden 100g/km CO2 barrier with emissions of 99g/km.
Peugeot has yet to announce any pricing details, but we're expecting the 108 to start from around the £8,000 mark.
