The original Batmobile used in the 1960s Batman television series has sold for $4.2m (£2.6m) at a US auction.
The car was bought by the fantastically-named Rick Champagne, a logistics company owner from Phoenix Arizona. Mr Champagne described owning the car as "a dream come true".
The Batmobile is a 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car which was kitted out for the series by car customiser George Barris. Barris bought the car from Ford for the princely sum of $1 and was given just 15 days and $15,000 ($107,000 in today's money) to transform the Lincoln into the Caped Crusader's set of wheels.
Barris added items such as a 'Bat Ray Projector', an 'Emergency Bat Turn Lever' and a 'Bat Smoke' device, and also installed two rear parachutes to help Batman pull off 180-degree turns. Not even the insane Tumbler Batmobile used in the recent Christopher Nolan films has this!
Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson auctions said: "The 1966 Batmobile by George Barris is one of the most famous Hollywood cars in history and it has become a true icon that has been carried from generation to generation of Batmobiles to follow."
