Jaguar is busy developing a rival to the BMW 3 Series, however it appears that another new Jaguar is set to be in direct competition with the BMW 1 Series, the Audi A3 and the Volkswagen Golf.
Jaguar's global brand director, Adrian Hallmark has spoken of the plans saying "We won't have a 1-Series-sized car for five to ten years, but we're working on some compelling alternative body styles that are anti-German luxury car establishment." Recently released images show how this new model may look. The new design retains a familiar Jaguar look. Adrian Hallmark spoke of Jaguar's intentions. "If we go into the smaller car market, we want to build elegant models with great technology that give a sense of occasion and position us above the competition."
Although this new Jaguar is a long way from production it is likely that the new model will have a choice of two turbocharged engines - a diesel and a petrol. The car will most likely be front wheel drive and will be priced around £20,000.
Jaguar is due to release new versions of the XF and XF estates, as well as continuing the design process on future XF and XKs which are due for 2014. A new XJ coupe may also be in the pipeline.
