The first details of Infiniti’s advanced electric sports car concept, which is due to get its global debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, have been released.

The as yet unnamed Infiniti Sports car concept will be lightweight with low emissions, and will be the first Infiniti to feature a range-extender drivetrain, and a mid-mounted powertrain for improved weight distribution and therefore better handling.

Infiniti has already taken a strong lead in the production of high performance and low emission technologies, with its Infiniti M Hybrid. The new concept will explore ways to take this to the next level, with a more sophisticated driving experience. The mid-ship design could be a vital ingredient in achieving this.

The new car, which aims to reduce the usual compromise between sports performance and environmental credentials, will retain the character and much of the styling that the brand is known for. It will offer low emission open-road performance and zero emissions all-electric driving in the city.

The full details of the new car will be released at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show where it will get its world debut.
