The latest research shows that people often make a new purchase solely because they want to drive something different.
A survey of over a thousand people was conducted by Experian seeking to find out the reasons behind new car purchases and what leads drivers to make their choices. It found that 45% of people would buy a new car just because they wanted to drive something new or different.
The findings suggest that although we have been facing a slowdown in people’s spending power and an increase in living costs, the driving public are still willing to treat themselves when it comes to a new motor.
However, the survey also found that 43% of respondents felt the most important reason for buying a new car was to replace one which would be uneconomical to repair and keep on the road. Although many are making compulsive purchases, there are still a significant group who are getting the most out of their car before moving on to a new one.
Around a third of people said that reducing their running costs was a significant driver in their choices. Technology surrounding fuel efficiency and the reduced rates of road tax for modern vehicles has made running an old motor more expensive, relatively.
