With winter fast approaching, and with fears that we could have another round of record breaking cold and snow in the UK, Bentley are making sure that their drivers are able to drive safely no matter what the road conditions are, with a new winter tyre and accessories range.
The new winter tyres being offered to Bentley's UK customers will be the same ones used Juha Kankkunen in his Bentley Continental Supersports convertible when he set a new world ice speed record on the frozen waters of the Baltic sea off the coast of Finland. The 'Flying Finn', reached an incredible top speed of 205.4mph to win his new record, and having the right tyres for this task was clearly essential.
For the approaching winter season all authorised Bentley dealers will be supplying a comprehensive range of these high-performance winter tyres, in 19 inch, 20 inch and 21 inch sizes to fit any Bentley car.
The unique tread design of the new tyres, with an increased number of grooves and sipes, enables them to offer significantly better traction on ice, which means shorter braking distances and improved road-holding and cornering.
But the benefits of these new tyres are not limited to the most extreme winter weather conditions. The compound which they are made from, with a higher proportion of natural rubber and silica, retains more flexibility than regular summer tyres right up to 7 degrees Celsius, meaning greater contact with the road and hence better grip.
Bentley is also offering customers a range of other winter accessories. A clever 'Autosock' provides a temporary measure to improve grip in unexpected wintry conditions. This serves as a short term alternative to the use of a snow chain, and is made from a special fabric which fits over the drive wheels. The fibres of the material out of which it is made stick to dry snow and ice to maximise grip, and unlike snow chains the Autosock is silent and smooth running.
For more extended periods of snow and ice, and in deep snow, the Bentley snow chain is also available. The innovative Spikes-Spider snow chain features a central hub that holds the chain more loosely, allowing for more flexibility in response to the road surface.
