Fiat has recently been honoured as the manufacturer recording the lowest level of CO2 emissions by vehicles sold throughout Europe in 2011.

JATO Dynamics, the world's leading automotive consultancy and research organisation, confirmed that Fiat was the car manufacturer registering the lowest level of CO2 emissions last year.

In 2011, Fiat Automobiles recorded an average measurement of 118.2g/km (4.9g/km less than the 2010 average).

What is even more impressive than this is the fact that this is the fifth year that the brand has achieved such recognition.

The most impressive fact, however, it that Fiat has reduced its average emissions by 14% over the last five years - from 137.3 to 118.2 g/km of CO2. This represents a target significantly lower than the one set out by the European Union for 2015 - 130 g/km.

Leading the way in greener cars

Developments such as a TwinAir engine, the world's most 'ecological' turbo petrol engine, and eco:Drive, an application that promotes more eco-conscious driving and allows drivers to optimise CO2 emissions, are some of the top innovations featured by Fiat vehicles.

The manufacturer has also made use of alternative fuel sources such as Methane/LPG.

Last February, Fiat won the 'Used Car of the Year' award at the Automotive Industry News Awards in Birmingham; while the Fiat 500 model won the industry award for its reasonable exchange values (between £4,500 and £5,500 after three years) and its slow deprecation, according to Jeremy Bennett, editor at AM.

In addition, the manufacturer can also boast of being in the list of Top 10 best sellers. Fiat has enjoyed unprecedented success in the UK recently, with sales figures increasing by 117.5% in October 2011, compared to figures for the same period in 2010.
