Mercedes has unveiled its latest MPV, the all-new eight-seater V-Class, at an event in Munich ahead of its UK debut in March next year.

The V-Class has been designed alongside the next generation Vito van and shares around 20 per cent of its chassis components with the outgoing Viano; however, Mercedes claims the car will offer improved levels of luxury, comfort and technology, moving away from Viano's van-like roots.

The result, we'd have to say, looks impressive. For an eight-seater MPV the V-Class looks incredibly stylish thanks to a new front end inspired by the new E-Class. The Viano's boxy profile remains; however, Mercedes has livened up the sides with a crease, and the alloy wheels help to give the V-Class a more car-like character.

Inside, the V-Class is as luxurious as you'd expect, with acres of nappa leather, matt-finish wood and a dashboard inspired by that fitted to the new S-Class. The multi-function steering wheel has been taken straight from the new C-Class and Mercedes' Comand infotainment system is also on offer.

Two body sizes are on offer -- with either a single kerb-side rear sliding door or two rear sliding door -- and buyers will also have a choice of two engines, including a 2.1-litre four-pot turbodiesel engine developing either 134bhp, 161bhp or, in the case of the top-spec V250, 187bhp. The V250 is designed to replace the old 3.0-litre V6 diesel from the Viano and is the only model to come with the 7G-tronic automatic gearbox as standard; it's available on lesser models in the range as an option.

The V-Class is set to go on sale in March 2015 and although Mercedes has yet to release any pricing details, a starting price of around £35,000 seems likely.
