Lego has announced it will make an official Back To The Future set based on the legendary DeLorean time machine featured in the films.

The set, which includes miniature Lego models of both Marty McFly and Doc Brown, will go into production through Lego's Cuusoo scheme.

Under the Cuusoo scheme, Lego fans have the opportunity to put forward ideas for new Lego models they'd like to see, with those that receive more than 10,000 votes being considered for production.

The DeLorean DMC-12 is one of our all-time top 10 favourite science fiction cars and it's great to see it being turned into a Lego model. We like the Lego DeLorean almost as much as the Lego Batmobile and the Lego jet engine we told you about earlier in the year.

But for those of you who are still rushing around looking for Christmas gift ideas, we have some bad news. The Lego DeLorean is not slated to go into production until 2013.
