The famous American based brand ‘Jeep’ seek to reverse falling European market share with the Juke, a small crossover car.
Jeep are hoping to reverse their falling market share across Europe and bolster sales figures with a new small 4x4 car that they hope will be strong competitor to the supermini-based Nissan. The new model will fit into the line-up in the UK just below the Compass, which has recently been re-launched.
Whilst the styling is likely to take inspiration from the Renegade concept car which was unveiled in 2008, and was said to show the company’s future vision for a supermini length sports SUV, it will also stay true to the classic Jeep look with a strong connection to Jeep’s core model – the Wrangler. The traditional seven bar grille will be there at the front, and the company are hoping that the new Juke’s looks will create a new iconic image for Jeep in the same way that the Wrangler has.
The Juke will be available as both a 2 wheel drive and a 4x4, and company boss Mike Manley has confirmed that Jeep’s new parent company Fiat will supply the engines. Those engines will probably turn out to be 1.3-litre and 1.6-litre Multijet diesels, which will have good green credentials with emissions on the two-wheel-drive models coming in at under 120g/km. There is also likely to be a 1.4-litre petrol turbo engine to add to the range. Fiat will also provide the platform on which the Juke is built, with the most likely outcome being a stretched version of the next four-wheel-drive Panda.
But Fiat are not the only ones lending technology to a new Jeep model, with strong hints coming out from the company that they will take technology from the old DaimlerChrysler partnership to create a new hybrid Jeep. When this will materialize is anyone’s guess, but you can expect to see the Juke in showrooms sometime in 2013.
