The results of the 2012 JD Power Survey are out and Jaguar has been voted the number one manufacturer.

Last year's number one manufacturer, Lexus, was ranked in second place ahead of Skoda, Honda and Mercedes-Benz.

The JD Power Survey reports the opinions of around 18,000 car owners to see just how satisfied buyers have been with their cars. The cars are ranked in four areas: appeal, service satisfaction, quality and reliability, and ownership costs. Each category is then weighted according to how important it is for the individual buyer. The cars ranked must have been registered between January 2009 and December 2010.

It was a disappointing result for General Motors, with Chevrolet being ranked last, followed by Vauxhall. Fiat was third from bottom, with Suzuki and Renault rounding off the bottom five.

In a surprising result, the Kia Sportage was named the most satisfying car to own, closely followed by the Jaguar XF and the Toyota Prius. The Skoda Superb and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class were ranked fourth and fifth, respectively.

In another poor result for Vauxhall, the old Vectra was ranked last, followed by the Nissan Pixo, Chevrolet Matiz and Suzuki Alto.
