The mayor of a small town in Germany has sparked fury by designating special parking spaces to men.

Gallus Strobel, the mayor of Triberg, has set aside special spaces for male drivers because they're trickier to get into.

There are also spaces set aside for women in Triberg's municipal garage which are wider and well-lit, while the 'men-only' spaces are tighter, angled and bordered by concrete pillars.

Strobel told the German paper Süddeutsche Zeitung that he was prepared for a media backlash but also claimed that, when it comes to parking, "men are, as a rule, a little better at such challenges."

He also claimed that the move was not sexist, but "equally minded."

What do you think about this story? Are women drivers worse parkers than men, or is this a tired old cliché? Is the mayor of Triberg being sexist or gallant? Comment below.
