A foreign lorry driver drove down the M6 for three miles in the wrong direction, before being stopped by a group of HGV drivers.

The lorry left Hilton Park Services (pictured) near Cannock on Saturday night, travelling southbound on the northbound carriageway. It carried on for three miles, reaching junction 10, before three HGV drivers formed a blockade to bring it to a halt.

Police were on the scene within minutes. The driver tested positive for alcohol and was arrested for dangerous driving.

Drivers were warned of the oncoming lorry by the overhead gantry signs, and a temporary 30mph speed limit was brought into force to minimise the risk to other motorists.

Luckily, nobody was injured.
