Fiat has confirmed that it will build a crossover version of the 500 called the 500X.
The 500X will be based on the new 500L and is designed to compete against established small crossovers such as the Nissan Juke and the MINI Countryman.
Details of the new model are scarce but the 500X is likely to come fitted with the same engines as the 500, so expect to see a 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel, a 1.4-litre petrol and a TwinAir model in the 500X range.
The 500X is more conservatively styled than the 500L we showed you earlier this year and is likely to be aimed at a wider market than its sister cars.
There is no word yet on pricing, but expect the 500X to start from around £13,000 when it goes on sale in late 2013.
