A new seven-seat version of the Fiat 500L has been revealed. Called the Fiat 500L MPV (Multi Purpose Wagon), Fiat claims that the new car is as agile as a city car, as comfortable and capable as an estate car and as roomy as an MPV.

Despite the seven seats on board, Fiat describes the 500L MPW as a 5 + 2 seater, making it clear that the rearmost seats are intended for occasional use only. The MPW is 210mm longer than the standard 500L and 10mm higher and this extra size pays dividends inside the cabin -- the MPW has a 638-litre boot, 238-litres bigger than the one in the standard 500L.

The engines have been carried directly over from the 500L. There's a choice of two petrol engines, a 95bhp 1.4 and the 105bhp 0.9 TwinAir, and two diesels, a 104bhp 1.6 and an 84bhp 1.3. The 1.3-litre diesel is also available with an automatic gearbox.

The range includes two trim levels, Pop Star and Lounge, and buyers will have the choice of 19 body colours, six interior trims and 15 different types of alloy wheel.

The 500L MPW (or the 500L Living, as it will be known in the rest of Europe) will go on sale in Italy next month, with UK order books opening later this year. Prices have yet to be confirmed.
