The Fiat 500L MPW, a new, bigger addition to the Fiat 500L family, has arrived in UK showrooms fresh from its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Joining the range alongside the standard 500L and the 500L Trekking (incidentally, you can read our road test of the latter here), the 500L MPW is available in both five- and seven-seat guises and is described by Fiat as "a credible alternative to a traditional C-segment estate." The rear seats of the seven-seater are, however, only suitable for children and people shorter than 5 feet 5 inches.

At 4,352mm in length and 1,784mm in width, the 500L MPW is about the same size as a Mercedes B-Class or a Ford C-Max. There's 638-litres of boot space on offer with the rear seats in place and in the seven-seat versions the seats can be folded flat and stored in the boot floor.

The 500L MPW will be offered with four engines: a 1.4-litre petrol with 95bhp, Fiat's brilliant 0.9-litre TwinAir engine, an 85bhp 1.3-litre diesel and a 105bhp 1.6-litre diesel.

There are two trim levels on offer: Pop Star and Lounge. Pop Star models get air-conditioning, cruise control, 16-inch alloys, a five-inch touchscreen infotainment system and rear parking sensors.

Upgrading to the Lounge specification gets you electric rear windows, front fog lights, dual-zone automatic climate control, automatic headlights, rain sensors, seat back tables for the front seats, rear privacy glass and an electric glass sunroof.

All models are offered with a choice of nine exterior colours and a variety of contrasting roof and mirror combinations.

Prices for the 500L MPW start from £15,795 for the entry-level five-seat Pop Star 1.4-litre petrol, rising to £20,490 for the range-topping seven-seat 1.6-litre Lounge diesel.
