Whereas British police are forced to drive around in dreary Vauxhall diesels, their colleagues in the United Arab Emirates are a little more fortunate.

The Dubai police force has unveiled what is believed to be the most expensive police car in the world -- a £350,000 Lamborghini Aventador.

The Aventador, which is finished in the Dubai police force's green and white livery, can hit 60mph in less than three seconds and is capable of speeds up to 217mph.

But despite the Aventador's impressive performance credentials, it's unlikely that the car will be involved in any high-speed chases. Instead, the car will be used mainly for show in popular tourist areas.

Deputy police director Gen Khamis Matter al-Muzaina said that the Aventador police car would be used to demonstrate "how classy Dubai is."

The introduction of the Aventador police car is just part of the Dubai's overhaul of its police cars. The force is also reportedly adding a number of Chevrolet Camaros to its fleet.
