A motorist has died after a dog lead he wore around his neck got caught in the wheel of his own car.
Rob Emslie, a 47-year-old plumber from South Africa, was distraught when his dog Sheevah died, and naturally he wanted to commemorate his dead pet's life in some way.
In what must rank as one of the gravest errors of judgement ever committed by a human being, he decided that the best way to celebrate Sheevah's life was to wear its three-metre long leash around his neck.
We're guessing that Mr Emslie was not a bright man.
Emslie then decided to go out to a nearby restaurant. After consuming ten glasses of wine (with a dog leash around his neck, in case you'd forgotten), he decided, brilliantly, that the best thing to do was to drive home.
He got into his car and shut the door. Unfortunately, what the bladdered Mr Emslie didn't realise was that his neck accoutrement remained outside the vehicle.
As he reversed the car out of its space, Sheevah's lead got tangled in the car's front wheel, the leash tightened and Mr Emslie's neck snapped, killing him instantly.
Police are not treating Mr Emslie's death as suspicious. Ridiculous, but not suspicious.
