The Range Rover is undoubtedly one of the finest cars in the world.
An exquisitely-appointed luxury car, a go-anywhere off-roader and a bona-fide motoring icon all at the same time, the latest Rangey is as damn-near close to perfection as it's possible to come. In fact it's so good it won our 2013 Large 4x4 of the Year award.
However, a small California-based company by the name of Newport Convertible Engineering evidently thinks that the Range Rover can be improved and has had a go at putting its stamp on Solihull's finest... by cutting its roof off.
There isn't much technical information surrounding the car but, truth be told, the images tell us everything we need to know. Gone is the Rangey's metal roof along with its distinctive D-pillars, and in its place is, well, a bit of beige canvas.
It's hardly the most aesthetically elegant engineering solution in history -- roof up or roof down, the Newport Range Rover looks suspiciously like the Renault Espace convertible which the Top Gear chaps designed years ago.
So, what do you think of the convertible Range Rover? Drop-dead gorgeous or drop-top disaster? Leave your comments below.
