What with the rising cost of fuel, the proliferation of speed cameras and the increasingly woeful driving standards displayed on most of the UK's roads, it's becoming increasingly difficult to enjoy the act of driving. However, there is one species which, if you put them in a car, find it impossible not to be happy.

Dogs love cars. Dogs love sitting in cars, dogs love sticking their heads out of your car window and dogs especially love ruining your car's carpets by shedding a million microscopic hairs all over your interior.

So, in celebration of the simple wonder dogs experience on the road, we've drawn together a gallery of cheerful canines in cars.
