Bungling council workers have painted double yellow lines down an alleyway which is too narrow to drive down.

Lines have been painted on both sides of Newhall Street in Swindon, leaving a gap of just 13-inches between them.

Luckily for motorists, however, the alley is just four feet wide -- narrower than every car on the market, excluding the 3ft 10in wide Renault Twizy -- so traffic wardens are unlikely to find a car illegally parked.

A spokesperson for Swindon Borough Council said: "It seems that our contractors forgot just how big cars actually are when they painted this one.

"We will be taking it up with them."
