A man caught travelling at speeds of up to 165mph on a Liverpool motorway has insisted he will carry on driving, despite being issued with a three-year ban.
Shiad Mahmoon from Oldham was stopped by police after they spotted him racing along the empty M57 in a hired Audi R8. He was driving at speeds of between 144mph – 165mph, which were the fastest ever recorded by the officers.
The unemployed 24-year-old showed little remorse for his potentially dangerous actions however, making it clear to the court that no ban would stop him from driving. "I'm still going to drive - catch me if you can” he claimed.
Mr Mahmoon is no stranger to breaking the law on the road either – he has previous convictions for both driving while disqualified and driving without due care and attention.
One of the officers who stopped him, Sergeant Mike Clarey, had this to say: "Travelling at such a high speed put Mahmoon in danger and also could have put other drivers in danger.
"Mahmoon showed a blatant disregard for the law even after he was sentenced.
"Our message to anyone who flouts the law to such a degree is that we will use all the technology we have available to bring you to justice."
In addition to the three-year ban he received, Mr Mahmoon was told he would have to re-take the test should he ever want to drive again, while he was also ordered to pay £515 in fines and costs.
