A young man has had a miraculous escape after a crash in which he literally wrapped his car around a tree.

21-year-old Ashley Locker from Scarborough, North Yorkshire, has himself admitted that he may well be the “luckiest person alive”. Looking at the image above, it’s certainly tough to dispute his claim.

His MG ZR hatchback was literally destroyed by the side-on collision with a tree. The driver’s seat snapped in half and sent Mr Locker flying into the rear of the car.

It is not currently known exactly how fast the vehicle was travelling or how the accident occurred.

Ashley's mum, Gill, said: "We felt sick when we saw the pictures of the car. He was very lucky. He is happy to still be here.

"He was not trapped for very long. He had been flung into the back seat – but his seat belt was still on."

Ashley was cut free from the wreckage by firefighters and, incredibly, emerged with only a broken arm. He spent just a single night in hospital, having stitches in a wound to his foot and a plate fitted in his arm.

Paramedics have put Mr Locker’s remarkable escape down to his large 6’3” 18-stone build.
