A British team has crossed America from coast to coast in a Jaguar XF 2.2 diesel, to prove that it is the most efficient car ever produced by Jaguar.
A team of British drivers have crossed North America from New York to Los Angeles, covering a total of 2,884 miles, crossing 11 states, and travelling through three time zones. At the end of the journey the XF had managed an average fuel consumption of 62.9mpg, making it the most fuel efficient car that Jaguar have ever made. Across the whole journey, the team only had to stop four times to fill the fuel tank, and a peak fuel economy figure of 67mpg was achieved on the penultimate day of the journey.
The Project Manager for the XF, Paul Alcock, commented on the journey which he oversaw from start to finish saying:
"This project was designed primarily to test the potential economy of the XF 2.2. The incredible figures achieved by the car were accomplished through making every element of the new XF as efficient as possible - from its aerodynamics to its four-cylinder 2.2-litre diesel engine linked to an eight-speed gearbox. The whole XF team is incredibly proud of what's been achieved and it's a graphic demonstration of the strength, engineering integrity and efficiency of the car."
The team of drivers was composed of independent testers David and Alexander Madgwick, and the XF was a standard UK 2.2-litre diesel model with no modifications. During the trip the XF managed an average speed of 53mph, and covered all of the scenarios an ordinary driver would encounter, from long highways to busy city roads and a climb up to 7,275 ft above sea level.
In addition to being the firm's most efficient vehicle, the XF 2.2 is capable of a top speed of 140mph and acceleration from 0-62mph in 8.0 seconds. It is a five seater car with premium features such as leather upholstery, touchscreen display, and climate control.
