A BMW travelled at speed of up to 140mph during a police pursuit around the M25 this morning.
Police cars and a helicopter chased a silver BMW coupe for 75 miles before deploying a stinger (a strip of spikes placed across the road to puncture a car's tyres). Police cars then surrounded the vehicle, bringing it to a halt.
A 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop for police.
Nobody was hurt in what must be one of the fastest police chases in UK history.
Slow coach
This reminded us of this story from last year in which a 76-year-old woman was banned from driving after another (admittedly more sedate) car chase.

Caroline Turner was chased by police for 17 miles through Essex in 2011 -- at speeds of less than 10mph.
Police began pursuing Mrs Turner after she was spotted going the wrong way around a roundabout. An officer got out of his patrol car and jogged alongside Turner's Fiesta to get her to stop, to which she replied, "There's nothing to discuss. I'm going home."
Police finally managed to stop the OAP, detaining her in a cell overnight. She was fined for £100 for careless driving.
Turner intends to retake her test when her ban expires. Good luck with that Grandma.
