It may have come to your attention that it's been snowing quite heavily across most of the UK for the past few days.
The snow, of course, has had its usual devastating impact on the transport system. Flights have been grounded, trains have been cancelled (nothing new there then) and rear-wheel drive cars are slithering across the road in a vain attempt to find some traction.
Anything with rear-wheel drive is notoriously hopeless when the weather turns nippy. BMWs are, generally speaking, sensational cars; however, as soon as the mercury drops below 0, most Beemer owners are shocked to find that their 'Ultimate Driving Machine' has become an 'Ultimate Crashing Machine'.
But BMW is hoping to change all this with its latest new model, which should be one of the most composed vehicles on ice that the company has ever produced.
As you've probably already guessed -- the picture being a dead giveaway -- it's a bobsleigh.
BMW has designed this two-man bobsleigh for the American team to use in next year's Winter Olympics. With a carbon-fibre body built using expertise gained from the development of BMW's new Project i cars, BMW hopes that the bob can take the US team to victory in the two-man bobsleigh event for the first time since 1936.
Michael Scully, Creative Director of BMW Group Designworks USA, said: "BMW EfficientDynamics techniques are at the heart of the sled's design, making it sleeker, lighter and we hope faster: essentially a BMW on ice."
