By definition, a good crossover should combine the best attributes of both a standard hatchback and an off-roader.
In fact, crossovers have got their work cut out, as they need to be rugged and capable enough to cut it off-road, while being smooth and civilised enough to work as everyday transport.
Here are our nominations for the award of Best Crossover 2013.

Skoda YetiIf you're looking for a well-priced and stylish alternative to the family hatchback norm, the Skoda Yeti could be the perfect choice. It's fun to drive, practical and -- in all-wheel drive form, at least -- pretty handy off-road. Plus, it's a Skoda, so it should be endlessly reliable. |

Winner - Nissan QashqaiThe Nissan Qashqai is, quite simply, a superb family car. Not only is it practical, comfortable, good to drive and cheap to run, but it offers the sort of road presence you'd expect from an off-roader with the on-road manners you'd associate with a traditional car. And to cap it all off, it's built in Britain. |

Highly Commended - Mitsubishi ASXThe ASX might not be the most exciting car in its class; however, it makes it onto our shortlist because it's a solid all-round performer. It's good to drive, practical and economical; plus, because it's a Mitsubishi, it should be very reliable. |
