Audi has taken the wraps off the latest incarnation of its A3 and R8 GT Spyder.
The new models in the A3 range are not expected to be unveiled officially until next year, but the German car maker has released sketches of how the production models will look having previously shown the saloon at the Geneva Motor Show in concept form only.
The sketches show the new look for the production saloon and three-door hatchback models, including the new Audi face already a feature on the new A6. This means a hexagonal grille set between a pair of angular headlights, and a brace of large air intakes either side of the front bumper. The body has deeply sculpted sides, with a bold crease running along the length of the car.
The new car also gets an internal makeover, and gains Audi’s all-new MMI system. The trackpad on which Audi A8 and A7 drivers ‘write’ in sat-nav instructions and telephone numbers is now mounted in the centre console as a large scroll wheel.
Audi has not confirmed when or if the saloon model will be available in the UK, nor has it announced a five-door sportback model. The three-door hatchback is expected to be seen at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, whereas the saloon is planned to follow at next years Frankfurt Motor Show.
Audi also revealed a Spyder version of its R8 GT. The hard-top model had a limited worldwide production run of just 333 models, and the soft-top is expected to be just as exclusive with a price tag of around £150,000 when it goes on sale early in 2012.
