Audi is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its RS division with a commemorative version of the RS4 Avant which pays tribute to the car that started it all -- the legendary RS2.

The RS4 Avant Nogaro edition will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March and is offered in the same 'Nogaro Blue' paint finish which the original RS2s were available with. There are more RS2 styling cues on the form of a matt black roof, a blacked-out front grille and red brake callipers.

On the inside, the seats are finished in Alcantara and Valcona leather, and special RS badging and unique carbon inlays are also included as standard.

Mechanically, the Nogaro edition is identical to the standard RS4 Avant, with a 4.2-litre V8 engine sending 444bhp and 317lb-ft of torque to all four wheels via a seven-speed flappy-paddle gearbox and Audi's quattro all-wheel drive system. 0-62mph takes just 4.7 seconds and flat out you'll be doing 174mph.

The original RS2 of 1994, on the other hand, featured a 2.2-litre five-cylinder turbocharged engine, developing 311bhp. 0-62mph took 5.4 seconds and the top speed was 163mph -- impressive figures even by today's standards.

The RS4 Avant Nogaro edition will go on sale in Europe soon after its Geneva debut with a price tag of 87,300 euros (£72,516). Audi has yet to decide whether to bring the model to the UK.
